Not Professional Audio-Engineering Advice
MikeLoss is not a recording studio, a mastering house, or an audio-equipment manufacturer. The file-size, episode-length, bitrate, loudness, mic-distance, and reverb calculators, along with every article and Learn entry, are educational tools that describe standard audio formulas and general recording knowledge. They are not a substitute for a trained audio engineer, a calibrated loudness meter, or the specifications published by your microphone, interface, software, or podcast host.
Do not treat an estimated file size as a guarantee your host will accept the upload, a LUFS gain figure as a finished master, or a reverb estimate as a measured acoustic report. If a decision matters to how your show sounds or whether it publishes correctly, verify it with a proper meter and the official documentation before you act on anything you read here.
Estimates, Not Exact Figures
The calculators use widely accepted audio formulas and simplifying assumptions — constant bitrate for MP3 sizing, the standard sample-rate × bit-depth × channels model for uncompressed audio, a fixed speaking rate for run time, the inverse-square law for mic distance, and the Sabine equation for reverb. They are only as good as the numbers you enter. Real results vary with variable-bitrate encoding, container overhead, your actual delivery and pacing, room shape, and the specific absorption of your surfaces, so treat every output as a planning aid rather than a guaranteed measurement.
Loudness & Delivery
Loudness normalization, true-peak limiting, and file requirements differ from platform to platform and change over time. Nothing on MikeLoss tells you the one correct setting for a specific show. Always:
- Measure integrated loudness and true peak with a meter in your recording software before publishing.
- Check the current loudness target and file limits in each platform's own creator documentation.
- Leave true-peak headroom (commonly around -1 dBTP) so lossy encoding does not clip.
- Export a test file and listen on more than one set of headphones or speakers.
- Treat bitrate and file-size figures as approximations that depend on your encoder.
No Warranty

Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event shall MikeLoss be liable for any direct, indirect, punitive, incidental, special, or consequential damages — including a rejected upload, a re-record, lost time, or a mix that had to be redone — related to your use of, or reliance on, our tools, guides, and information.
User Responsibility
By using MikeLoss, you acknowledge and agree that:
- You will use your own judgement, and a calibrated meter or professional where it matters, when applying anything here to your own recording.
- You will double-check calculator inputs — sample rate, bit depth, bitrate, run time, distances, and room dimensions — before relying on a result.
- You are responsible for the final loudness, quality, and format of the audio you publish.
- You assume all risks associated with recording, editing, and distributing audio and with the use of our tools and information.
